Crisis Line Screener

Our crisis services are growing and we are expanding our team!

We are hiring Full-time, Part-time and On-call positions to work in the Crisis Program as a Crisis Line Screener and Dispatcher.

  • Full-time positions working 80 hours every 2 weeks: Day (7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) and Evening (3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.) shifts including every other weekend day shifts.
  • Part-time positions working 40 hours every 2 weeks: Day (7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) and Evening (3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.) shifts including every other weekend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening shifts.
  • On-call positions work at least one day or evening shift every 30 days. On-call shifts are scheduled and voluntary.

Job Duties:

  • Connect people who call the Crisis Line to crisis mental health or other services.
  • Complete phone screenings by answering phone calls and collecting caller information.
  • Dispatch the mobile crisis response team to community locations.
  • Effectively triage phone calls to the crisis response, urgent care and residential crisis teams.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Requirements:

  • Must have experience working in the mental health or human services field.
  • Must meet the DHS requirements of a Mental Health Practitioner as defined by MN Statute 245I.04.
  • Experience answering and transferring phone calls or work as a dispatcher preferred.
  • Ability to pass a DHS background check.
  • Must be 21 years old or older and speak English.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Requires computer skills for electronic health record entry and other duties.
  • Requires sound judgement as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.

***MUST MEET MENTAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER REQUIREMENTS***

“Mental Health Practitioner” as defined by MN Statute 245.462 is defined as a person providing services to adults with mental illness or children with emotional disturbance who is qualified in at least one of the following ways:

1. Through relevant coursework:

a) Has completed at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields AND:

i. Has at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with

a mental illness or a substance use disorder, a traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to adults or children; OR

ii. Is fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50% of the individual’s clients belong, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to a client; OR

iii. Is working in a day treatment program under section 256B.0671, subdivision 3, or 256B.0943; OR

iv. Has completed a practicum or internship that required direct interaction with adult or children served AND is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields, or is in the process of completing a practicum or internship as part of a formal undergraduate or graduate training program in social work, psychology, or counseling.

2. Through relevant work experience:

a) Has at least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to individuals with a mental illness or a substance use disorder, or a traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to clients; OR

b) Receives treatment supervision at least once per week until meeting the requirement in clause (1) of 4,000 hours of experience and has at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with a mental illness or a substance use disorder, or a traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to clients.

3. An individual is qualified as a Mental Health Practitioner if the individual has a master’s or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
