Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for providing analytical services to the Fort Myers Police Department. The Criminal Intelligence Analyst will perform systematic and analytical processes directed at providing pertinent information relative to crime patterns and trend correlations to assist operational and administrative personnel in planning the deployment of resources for preventing and suppressing criminal activities, aiding the investigative process, increasing apprehensions, and clearing cases including analyzing information to identify similarities, patterns, and trends among different offenses, identify suspects, and predict criminal activity.Research, analyze, and compile data from a variety of sources to determine similar offense patterns, series, trends and offenders. Use crime analysis techniques to view, evaluate, and forecast future crime occurrences by comparing unique descriptors and/or variables as well as developing and comparing target/suspect profiles, suspect/crime correlations and offender characteristics. Organize, maintain and enhance manual and automated systems for storage and retrieval of crime and offender information. Initiate and disseminate crime analysis reports and bulletins to individuals and groups within the department and law enforcement community that articulates specific crime problems and offenders, and enhances directed patrol and investigative activity. Prepare and include maps, charts, graphs and written reports as they apply to specific crimes by area.Assist with the development of agency tactics, strategies, and planning in response to crime trends; create or modify existing programs aimed at targeting specific problem areas and addressing specific series, patterns, and trends. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Collects specific crime data.
- Assembles, compiles, compares and analyzes collected information for the purpose of studying trends and identifying criminal patterns; incorporates this information into pertinent reports to be utilized by sworn personnel to structure use of patrol time and support investigations as well as crime prevention activities.

- Prepares daily reports outlining target crimes and other crimes of interest.
- Prepares memorandums for supervisory approval.
- Attends CitiStat meetings.
- May require to drive to accomplish assigned tasks.
- This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.)
- Knowledgeable in relational databases, computer database systems, statistical analysis and mapping software programs such as ArcGIS.
- Skill in research and analysis techniques.
- Ability to orally communicate and write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals clearly and concisely, effectively present information and respond to questions.
- Ability to handle a multitude of diverse tasks simultaneously while maintaining an attention to detail for the purpose of ensuring accuracy in task performance.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisory personnel, department personnel, outside agencies, etc.
- Ability to operate necessary equipment, including vehicle, personal computer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine and other standard office equipment.
Minimum Requirements
- Associates degree with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Social Network Analysis, Statistical Analysis or closely related field. Experience and or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted for the degree.
- One (1) year experience that demonstrates the ability to analyze collected data and/or statistical reports from various sources and incorporate this information into pertinent reports to be utilized by sworn personnel to structure use of patrol operations and support investigations as well as crime prevention activities, and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, statistical analysis or closely related field
- Previous training or certificate in crime or intelligence analysis
- Knowledge of the Stratified Policing Model
