Veterinary Technician Job Responsibilities:
A Veterinary Technician provides animal care by determining animal requirements; conducting diagnostic procedures; assisting during operations; feeding and caring for animals; maintaining supplies and equipment; maintaining records.
Core Responsibilities:
- Supports Mission, Vision and Values of Destination Pet.
- Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable
- Training, supervising, and assisting technicians in their performance of a variety of technical and client education duties.
- Providing guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
- Conducting timely performance evaluations, mediate interpersonal problems and address concerns
- Making recommendations to the practice manager concerning personnel matters and assist with follow through of disciplinary actions.
- Assisting veterinarians to provide compassionate nursing care
- Performing cursory exams and prepping animals for aseptic surgery
- Monitoring anesthetic patients
- Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian, and explaining prescription directions
- Assisting receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and providing telephone support
- Performing various laboratory tests
- Suggesting dietary products and other services to clients
- Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements for Veterinary Technician Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Animal Behavior, Animal Husbandry, Documentation Skills, Analyzing information, Clinical Skills, creating a Safe, Effective Environment
- Performing Diagnostic Procedures, Use of Medical Technologies
- Attention to Detail, Patience, Verbal Communication
- Credentialed Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) must obtain state-issued credentials, which requires passing the VTNE & graduating from an accredited program with an associate degree
Physical:
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Must frequently lift 40 pounds.
- Must be able to be on feet eight hours per day.
- Must be able to stand, walk and climb stairs frequently.
- Must be able to handle dogs on leashes.
- Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation chemicals, animal dander and excretions
