Job Summary:
The crater packer role is to package label and prepare hardware for shipment. Packs and loads various products for shipment and/or storage as well as stage, fabricate and assemble crates and cartons for shipment. Determine proper methods of packaging to ensure hardware is protected and preserved based on the parts characteristics, shipment type and contractual or commercial requirements. Performs other various duties that include working with others to ensure packaging supplies are available.
*1st Shift - 7:30AM to 4:00PM. - Fullerton, California. This position is an onsite role. *
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Package, label, and prepare hardware for shipment in the shipping department.
  • Check items received to be packaged for damage and against shipping request documents to ensure that the quantity and identification are correct.
  • Work from drawings, sketches, shipping specifications, oral and written instructions, etc.
  • Packages hardware in accordance with issued packaging instructions.
  • Determine proper methods of packaging to ensure hardware is protected and preserved based on the part's characteristics, shipment type, and contractual or commercial requirements.
  • Determine type of crate or box to be constructed for packing and packaging materials to be used for protection and preservation by taking measurements directly from items to be packed. Block, brace, and secure products in crates and boxes in a manner to provide hardware protection during transit.
  • Construct crates and boxes using precut wood, fiberboard, and similar materials, by cutting material to proper size using powered saws and hand saws and assembles using nails or screws in a safe manner.
  • Generate exterior shipping labels and prepare completed packages for carrier pick up by moving crates and boxes to designated areas using manual pallet jacks, forklifts, and hydraulic lift trucks. Load, block, and secure packages on various types of carrier trucks, trailers or containers.
  • Working with other team members to maintain adequate inventory of required packaging materials.
  • Pack in accordance with applicable governing regulations for dangerous goods shipments
  • Maintain housekeeping standards by keeping work areas clean and organized.
  • Use general computer skills to obtain on-line training, perform SAP transactions, and maintain records such as time sheets in business system(s) and other related clerical functions.
  • Utilize computer equipment for the input, retrieval and recording of information related to the performance of duties, including, but not limited to, utilization of governing email system to monitor and respond to email requests, entering of hours worked into governing timecard system, etc.
  • Support all safety initiatives and requirements.
  • Perform incidental related duties as assigned or requested by management.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in a customer service environment.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an aerospace or government work environment
  • A minimum of 4 years of work experience in Packaging, Logistics, and/or Shipping.
  • Working knowledge of SAP PRISM/APEX or equivalent business system
  • Have experience with power equipment and hand tools such as hammers, saws, wrenches.
  • Required to lift, move, or push 25 pounds without the aid of material handling equipment.
  • Have experience operating forklifts, scissor lifts, crane/hoists, and related equipment.
  • Dangerous Goods certification in 49CFR, IATA, and IMDG
  • Experience with military (Mil-Std-2073) and commercial (ASTM) packaging standards
  • Familiarity with Space and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) hardware
  • Understanding of FOE (Foreign Object Elimination)

Additional Information:
  • The hourly range for this role is $20.58 to $33.55. The hourly range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

• Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
This position is part of a collective bargaining agreement. Wage and workplace conditions, including shift times, are subject to this agreement. Individuals hired into this position will be represented by a union.
