POSITION: COURT LIAISON
STATUS: NONEXEMPT
WAGE PER HOUR: $19.23
LOCATION: Biloxi, MS
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Chief Advocacy Officer
HOURS: Full-Time 40-hour work week Monday-Friday, some evening and weekend work will be required.
SUMMARY: Position acts as a liaison between the Center and courts within the Justice for Families Collaborative service area. Position will collaborate with the DV Coordinator to provide trainings to courts and their partners in order to develop domestic violence protocols and enhance court response to domestic violence cases.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Essential position requirements include but are not limited to: High school diploma or GED. Three (3) years of experience as a law enforcement officer with documented experience in work with domestic violence victims. Extensive knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and Mississippi domestic violence laws.
Must be able to work effectively with diverse group of clients, staff and individuals in the criminal justice systems.
Ability to work diplomatically in order to gain and maintain professional relationships with court officials and their partners.
Ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment.
Ability to express complex information and ideas both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work within agency mission, philosophy and policies/procedures.
Must have a reliable vehicle and meet agency driving policy requirements, including a valid driver license and proof of required automobile insurance. Travel required.
DUTIES:
COURT COLLABORATION AND TRAINING
· Provide training to court staff and their law enforcement and prosecutorial partners on domestic violence related topics including lethality/risk assessments, strangulation, trauma-informed care, needs of culturally-specific communities and domestic violence dynamics to improve the flow and scope of information courts need in order to make informed decisions
· Work in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to review and revise protocols and procedures regarding response to domestic violence and sexual assault cases to ensure consistency and accuracy of information provided to the courts for appropriate judicial response and compliance with both state law and local agency procedures
- Assist with training new patrol officers and investigators on dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, and best practices responding to these type cases in order to improve the quality of information available to courts and enhance judicial decisions
- Identify potential community partners and coordinate development of Coordinated Community Response (CCR) teams and policies and practices utilizing the Duluth Model as an example
- Obtain local crime/violence statistics and research, track and report on city, state, and federal legislative issues regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, and homicide
· Maintain a visible, professional and accessible presence in court environment
· Be an active member of the Harrison County CCR Team
· Assist with development of the Harrison County Family Justice Center project
