Description
The Administrative Office of the Courts is the operational arm of the Judicial Branch. The court systememploys nearly 3,300 personnel who support 406 elected justices, judges, and circuit court clerks.

The Department of Family and Juvenile Services has an immediate need for a Court Designated Specialist inMcCracken County.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Complete the tasks outlined by the Executive Officer.
  • Serve a multiple county district within a region and work referrals from Court Designated Workers withinapproved timelines.
  • Participate in case teaming with other specialists, program coordinators, supervisors, counseling agencies andlocal providers and others, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate high levels of community and family engagement and strength-based skills.
  • Be expected to take part in professional development opportunities to be up to date on child welfaretrends and family law collaborations with the courts.
  • Receive specialized instruction by departmental trainers (and outside partners, as appropriate) on thefollowing topics: individualizing diversions based on identified needs and strengths.
  • Understand recidivism (identifying criminal thinking errors and factors related to reoffending).
  • Establish graduated sanctions and appropriate responses trauma and trauma informed approaches.
  • Principles of successful multi-disciplinary teaming (promoting collaborative efforts).
  • Family and youth engagement (such as motivational interviewing).
  • Mental health screenings and assessments; referral criteria and how to accommodate the needs of youth withmental health concerns.
  • Understand special education needs and making referrals for testing.
  • Work with substance abusing clients and engaging family support systems.
  • Case management skills.
  • Take part in community outreach efforts related to families and children; participate and be knowledgeableregarding local community resources, initiatives, and partners.
  • On-call rotation is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Assoc./2 yrs. job related experience or High School Diploma /4yrs.job related experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Job requires general knowledge of the concepts of youth delinquency and the juvenilejustice process; interpersonal communication and writing skills; ability to review and evaluate youth caseplans analytically and develop plans for improvement, experience in research and coordination of resources foryouth; participation in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Working Conditions
Typically within office setting. Statewide travel is required.
