Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the oversight of operations and functions of the Municipal Court involving administrative, financial, clerical, technical and supervisory work.

  • Adheres to and ensures compliance with state statutes, local ordinances, and municipal court rules of procedures .
  • Serves as Clerk of the Court or delegates the duty; sets up courtroom and records proceedings including rulings, findings, pleas, and sentences.
  • Guides defendants, witnesses, and victims in the court system; oversees exhibits; prepares and processes orders of the court; performs follow-up work.
  • Maintains legal records for court proceedings.
  • Prepares and processes all required documents, accounts for the accuracy and completeness of all files.
  • Sends transcripts and certifies matters of court for appeals.
  • Carries out judicial orders issued by Municipal Court Judge.
  • Issues warrants, summons, subpoenas, notices, hearings, habeas corpus, criminal commitments, attachments, and other legal documents ordered by the Court.
  • Processes and enters arrest warrants issued by the Judge ensuring accuracy to prevent false arrest; sends notices concerning non-resident violations, submits quarterly verifications with the Police Department of active warrants.
  • Monitors Municipal Court budget and submits budget recommendations.
  • Acts as liaison between the Municipal Court, Town Administration, law enforcement officials, attorneys, jurors, defendants, witnesses, victims, and the judge.
  • Retrieves driving histories through DMV and criminal histories on CCIC system.
  • Oversees projects and programs such as Teen Court, e-ticketing, and various computer systems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

Requires four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in a court system.
A bachelor's degree in in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration, Administration of Justice, or a closely related field is strongly desired.
Two (2) years of supervisory or management position within the court is preferred.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.

  • Knowledge of court operations, Colorado Municipal Courts Rules, and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of record retention rules and regulations.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in managing and maintaining files and records.
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and other types of modern office equipment.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in de-escalation techniques, including responding to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction in a high-pressure environment and exercise good judgment and ethical decision-making.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in high stress situations.
  • Ability to serve the public with patience, tact, and integrity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to understand and produce a variety of financial and budgetary information. Knowledge of fundamental financial record keeping and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Office hours are typically Monday - Friday 8am-5pm. However, evening work will be required for Municipal Court proceedings.
Full salary range for Court Administrator position is: $73,733.00 - $106,913.00
