Job description

Position Summary/Objective
To further the mission of the camp by serving as the primary mentor and caregiver for campers in the Leader in Training (LIT) and Counselor in Training (CIT) programs as well as Junior Counselors (JC). The CIT director will plan and implement the CIT and LIT curriculums which will equip campers with the skills necessary to become camp counselors. Responsible for guiding campers in their personal growth and skill development. Also responsible for assisting with the oversight and training of JCs.

  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude, behavior, and following of camp procedures.
  • Be a mentor and example to CITs and JCs.
  • Apply youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, aid in competency development, and build connections.
  • Write and facilitate leadership lesson plans that meet and support camp and camper goals.
  • Deliver creative and adaptive Leader in Training and Counselor in Training I and II programs including educational and skill development programming.
  • Adapt activities as necessary to create a progression based on the needs and experience of the participants.
  • Evaluate CIT performance and readiness to serve as a JC or counselor throughout and at the end of camp by providing positive feedback and areas for development.
  • Provide daily care for each camper within your supervision.
  • Be alert to and assist with campers’, CITs’, and JCs’ physical and psychological needs. Discuss with camp health director and/or camp director when appropriate.
  • Supervise campers during both structured and unstructured times.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers, JCs, and staff at all times.
  • Work with counselors and other staff to ensure CIT and JC success when shadowing or assisting in a unit or activity area.
  • Assist in the development and lead the facilitation of session-long progressive programming tracks.
  • Set daily and session schedules for leadership camper programs.
  • Facilitate program areas such as arts and crafts, STEM, outdoor skills, and adventure areas.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
  • Participate as a member of the camp leadership team to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
  • Do what needs to be done so that every camper has a great summer at camp.

Education and Experience
  • 21 years or older preferred
  • Ability to interact with all age levels.
  • Desire and ability to work with children and teens outdoors.
  • Previous experience working with or teaching youth.
  • Previous experience working in an overnight camp setting preferred.
  • Previous experience facilitating youth leadership programs preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Must be willing to become a member of Girl Scouts.
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred.
  • Must be able to pass State and National background check.
Work Environment
Operates in a professional camp environment and will live on site with campers. This role occasionally uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. Requires ability and willingness to work in various activity areas at camp in all types of weather including rain, extreme heat, and cold. Must be able to move around the camp property to assist campers in their activities and spend a majority of hours each day standing and interacting with children.
Work Schedule
  • Position requires flexibility with schedule, typical schedule is Sunday through Friday, though some Saturdays may be required.
  • Position requires living on site and working evenings
Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees LITs, CITs, and JCs.
Compensation
  • Room and board
  • $75 per day (position requires a 6-day workweek)

Camp Linden: June 7th through August 9th or 22nd, 2024
