Counselor 3 carries out the mission of San Diego Center for Children and the treatment philosophies and approaches as they pertain to day-to-day operations of running a children's residential program. Counselor 3 will be compliance of Title 22 Regulations, Behavioral Health Services and Joint Commission.
This includes direct training of the direct care counselors, point person on campus and in conjunction with Shift Supervisor will ensure implementation of treatment plans for each youth, and maintenance of a therapeutic environment within the residential program. In addition, this position coordinates a variety of activities for children/youth, implements the program structure, and acts as a liaison with the education component.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide leadership, supervision, accountability, vision, and support for training employees and initiatives across agency.
- Collaborates across all departments on program implementation, capacity building and quality improvement initiatives.
- Helps to identify, implement, and measure quality practice outcome goals across the residential program.
- Manages, facilitates, and supports residential program needs by keeping up to date on best practices, trends and policies related to workforce development.
- Monitors and assesses effectiveness of pre-service training and ongoing training modules or direct care staff.
- Oversight of correspondence with direct care staff.
- Ensures maintenance of training plans and records required by regulatory and contractual requirements, accreditation standards, employment law, and organizational policies. (GH, BHS, Joint Commission)
- Ensures preparation of monthly, quarterly and end of the year training reports as required by licensing, contract, and accreditation requirements.
- Assist with Plans and Develops training modules for the expansion of programs and agency growth.
- Assist and help lead Counselors maintain the physical plant in safe, clean, and good working order. Ensure that all residential cottages/units meet the Center's policies, procedures, and Title 22 and Group Homeregulations. Coordinate physical plant or cottage repair priorities with facilities staff Lead Supervisor and Program Manager.
- Assist the treatment team in milieu program planning. Ensure Counselors carry out the programing and requirements (i.e., program schedules, program statement, weekly treatment team).
- Assist and help lead the treatment team develops and maintains an accurate and up to date program schedule when school is in session or out of session. Ensure holiday program schedules are developed one month prior to school holidays, that Counselor staff follow the program schedule, and that the schedule is approved by the Program Manager or Residential Director before implementation.
- Assist and help lead Counselors to maintain communication systems, both verbal and written in a manner that facilitates a therapeutic milieu, and in accordance with the Center's policies and procedures. These communication systems include daily progress notes, daily communication logs, incident reports and other clinical documentation or communication follow-up as assigned by Lead Supervisor and/or treatment team.
- Maintains and accurate inventory of day to day needs of youth, direct care staff and building (i.e., hygiene, office supplies, clothing).
- Attend any meetings required (i.e., CFT's, SITS).
- Works in conjunction with Compliance to determine if additional or retraining needs are required across the residential program.
- Completes and maintain all required training and certifications.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters within the organization with respect to personnel, operations, and clients.
- Care may include physically restraining children when necessary to prevent injury to the child or others.
- Collaborate with Operations Coordinator the mentoring and job specific orientation of new staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Assist with any specialty needs (i.g. groups, operations, Rec)
- Assist with being point person on Campus.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Driver's License within the State of California
- 2+ years direct experience working with children, adolescents, and families with children or adolescence in residential care.
- Demonstrated experience working with children, teenagers, and families.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or GED or foreign education equivalent.
- One year experience in a supervisor or mentor role.
- Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university.
- Four years related residential treatment care or special education experience.
- Familiar with Training in evidence-based practices.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish
