Job Summary: To perform all scheduled job procedures in order to keep the Opening Room operating at all times. To keep work area and machines clean and keep the stock/cotton fed into the mill/corresponding machinery at all times to produce top quality yarn.
Essential Job Duties:
LAYDOWN – 66 (or less sometimes) BALES
Always check laydown sheet for next consecutive numerical laydown to be staged.
Sweep staging area before bringing in cotton.
Bring one laydown (66 bales each) from warehouse to staging area. Place bales in the proper numerical order and chalk mark each bale with the correct bale number. Remove bagging from bales and place in manual baler or bin to then bring to the baler. Remove bag entirely off bale and then cut bale wires off using proper equipment and having on ALL proper PPE (APPROVED SAFETY GLASSES, FULL FACE SHIELD, CUT RESISTANT SLEEVES GLOVES, CHAPS, SAFETY VEST). Cotton bales with green plastic straps are to be opened using a utility knife. Plastic straps are to be separated and placed in designated baler. Pick up metal wires to be placed into the metal dumpster later. Wires should be cleaned of cotton before disposing. DO NOT RUN OVER THEM WITH THE FORKLIFT. Clear laydown area of remaining cotton and any foreign objects. Do not use forklift to sweep up cotton left from a previous laydown; Always use broom to sweep cotton leftover. Proceed with bale to opening room and place under BDT that has the least amount of cotton, in the order of the cotton laydown sequence shown on the diagram. Keep bales close to the outside yellow line to prevent BDT alarm. When ½ of the bales have been laid, make a composite bale from cotton left from previous laydown. Before the last 3 bales are drove in, level laydown by taking tallest bales and making another composite bale. Client the last 3 bales according to the diagram. Use a brush to remove all dirt from outside of bales. Brush off BDT trunk, head, walls and control panel, put chains up/fix if you can. Sweep floor around laydown. Line is ready for startup at this time.
