Description:
The Cost Accountant performs monthly manufacturing cost and inventory analysis, assists with financial statement preparation and analysis, account reconciliations, general accounting support, and special projects or tasks, as assigned. This position also prepares various reports for management, assists the Accounting department as a whole by providing back-up for all functions, and provides support to the Controller as required.
+ Consolidate, analyze, evaluate and report product line and business unit profitability on a monthly basis to meet all requirements of plant and divisional leadership. This includes identification and explanation of causes for significant cost deviation.
+ Track and analyze all inventory elements of product cost and ensure inventory valuation is stated in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles as well as division and corporate policies.
+ Maintain and oversee inventory control processes for all inventory categories.
+ Provide regular, timely analysis and evaluation of production and post-production efficiencies to enhance managements' understanding of the state of the business
+ Monitor variation and trends in actual production costs compared to bill-of-material standards and/or estimates. Recommend standard changes or corrective action in the production process where necessary to attain desired standards.
+ Monitor machinery job-cost estimates to ascertain all appropriate cost elements are factored into the job profit potential. Enter job cost estimates into the manufacturing system.
+ Provide recommendations on improvements in plant throughput and flow while also identifying opportunities for cost and working capital reduction.
+ Participate in the monthly financial closing by providing Finance leadership with the P&L elements related to operational costs including cost of sales, manufacturing variances, warranty, and R&D; in addition, provide balance sheet elements related to inventory, reserves for obsolescence and other known cost reserves.
+ Collaborate with Finance leadership on development of the annual preparation of standard labor, overhead burden rates, related inventory revaluation, divisional budgeting and monthly forecasting processes.
+ Maintain an effective working relationship with key production, purchasing, engineering and service personnel to enhance inter-organization communication and promote attainment of overall organizational goals.
+ Complete account reconciliations for all product costs and inventory-related accounts.
+ Engage in and support the organization's continuous improvement culture.
+ Provide assistance on special projects, as requested.
