JOB DESCRIPTION/POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Corrosion Assessment Professional is the subject matter expert in protective coatings and linings, materials selection, and condition assessments. The Corrosion Assessment Professional will perform field tests in accordance with approved national and international standards, surveys, developing alternatives for corrosion control within established design criteria, specifying materials and coatings, and supporting construction. The individual will have minimal oversight and be assisting the development and maintenance a center-wide corrosion control plan to support all Launch and Mission related activities and assets.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients to communicate corrosion risks, mitigation strategies, and progress little to no supervision and works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Provide photo documentation for areas of Corrosion Assessment. Provides consultation on materials selection, corrosion monitoring and control, remaining service life assessment, and repair strategies demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to come to a solution. Provide a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) for areas of Corrosion Assessment. Determine needed access to all areas of a structure to be assessed, to include swing stage, arial lift(s), scissor lift(s), scaffold, etc. Influence designs and maintenance plans to ensure the right materials, coatings, and protections get implemented that enable the long-term health and reusability in corrosion near ocean environments. Daily hands-on activities such as troubleshooting, developing procedures, conducting assessments, testing, and analyzing hardware. Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to corrosion control and Corrosion Assessments. Support development of technical proposals, statements of work and/or provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work. Coordinate and communicate effectively with CAD drafters, Design Engineers, or shop personnel by written or verbal means. General knowledge of planning, estimating, and maintenance execution is required. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
REQUIRED SKILLS/SPECIAL TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must possess a NACE 3 Peer Review. Understanding of NASA-STD-5008B Requirements.
EDUCATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma, Associates preferred. 15+ years relevant experience. Two years performing coatings and corrosion condition assessments.
