We are actively seeking passionate and dedicated future or current Correctional Officers. As a Correctional Officer in Florida, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the security and order within correctional facilities and ensuring the safety of inmates, staff, and the public.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain security and control within the correctional facility by conducting regular patrols, inspections, and searches.
- Monitor inmate behavior and enforce facility rules and regulations.
- Conduct thorough searches of individuals, cells, and common areas to prevent the introduction of contraband.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, including fights, medical emergencies, and disturbances, and take appropriate action to de-escalate situations and restore order.
- Conduct inmate counts and ensure accurate documentation of inmate movement and activities.
- Escort inmates to and from various locations, such as courtrooms, medical appointments, and work assignments.
- Report and document incidents, write reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and outside agencies.
- Collaborate with other correctional officers and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and safety guidelines while demonstrating professionalism and integrity in all actions.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require a college degree).
- Successful completion of a certified correctional officer academy or training program in the state of Florida.
- Valid Florida driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Excellent physical fitness and the ability to pass the physical fitness tests mandated by Florida correctional agencies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with inmates and maintain professional relationships.
- Demonstrated integrity, ethics, and a commitment to upholding the principles of corrections.
- Capability to remain calm, composed, and make sound decisions in high-stress situations.
- Proficiency in operating correctional equipment and utilizing technology effectively.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as demanded by the 24/7 nature of correctional work.
- U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Correctional Officer, ideally within the state of Florida.
- Additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as crisis intervention, self-defense, or mental health.
