General Summary: Monitors inmates on assigned shift(s), enforces rules, regulations and current policy and procedures in order to ensure the personal safety of both staff and inmates ( hourly rate effective January 1st, 2024).
- Observes inmates, monitoring behavior during block-out, yard-out, visits, meals and prison activities; communicates established limits for behavior; enforces rules of conduct and security; prepares written or verbal reports of significant violations or irregularities to relief officer and shift supervisor.
- In accordance with current policy, ensure proper supervision of inmates assigned to work details; ensure security inspections and observation of inmates placed on constant watch are conducted; observe proper key control procedures; communicate scheduled shift activities and problems to oncoming shifts; notify the Shift Commander of non-routine events, circumstances or problems.
- Respond to general inmate request and concerns; assign general maintenance tasks.
- Inspect cells, dormitories, yard, work locations, and other assigned areas within the facility for unauthorized objects or materials; check sanitary conditions, fire and safety hazards.
- Certify commitment transfer or discharge documents, evaluate and screen inmate, conduct body search, store or return inmate personal belongings.
- Assist in adverting riots and escapes; assist in physically suppressing aggressive acts undertaken by prisoners in accordance with established policy.
- Distribute cleaning and sanitation supplies, personal laundry and bedding for inmates.
- Supervise and assist in the distribution of medication.
- Complete all forms and update records to ensure ongoing documentation of operation. These forms and records include, but are not limited to the Unit Logbook, inmate close watch logs and various tasks and duties on the County’s current Jail Management System.
- Receive incoming telephone calls respond to request(s) for information in a professional and intelligent manner, provide basic information as required.
- Be knowledgeable of the content and specific duties associated with all Correctional Officer Post Orders
