THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Camp Hill is seeking a Corrections Food Service Instructor to join our amazing team. This position leads inmate workers in Food Service operations at SCI, Camp Hill. If you have the required experience and have a desire to help inmates learn a trade, the DOC wants you to apply today!
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you conduct Food Service work and provide instruction to inmates through on-the job vocational training. You instruct inmates in food preparation, production, service, and baking. In addition, you instruct inmates in safe and sanitary operation of tools and equipment, cleaning, maintenance, and storage practices. You also instruct inmates in the preparation of meals according to recipe, and ensure that meals are prepared and served in a timely manner.
Additional duties include inspecting Food Service areas, equipment and food to ensure conformance with established safety and sanitation standards. You review census and menu data, adjust recipes accordingly, and recycle leftover food into usable food products to reduce waste. You complete requisitions, and receive and store food and supplies in assigned work areas while ensuring first-in, first-out procedures are strictly followed.
You also plan and review inmate work assignments, conduct performance evaluations of inmate workers, and maintain all inmate worker records. In addition, you are responsible for maintaining care, custody, and control over inmates during work assignments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week.
  • Work hours, 4:30 AM to 12:30 PM; 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM; swing shift. rotating days off, paid lunch period. Schedule and pass days will be determined during the hiring process.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,753.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional Food Service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
