Job Description and Duties
Under supervision of the Supervising Correctional Cook and under direction of the Assistant Correctional Food Manager, the Correctional Supervising Cook (CSC) is responsible for the production of all meals prepared for the feeding of the inmate population. The CSC is responsible for maintaining proper inventory, usage controls, recipe production, and directs and coordinates the meal preparation and clean-up activities utilized in the preparation of these meals. The CSC is required to maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates, as well as protect and maintain the safety of persons and property. When Post duties allow, the CSC may be directed to provide supervision in other Posts as deemed necessary by supervisor(s). Other duties as required and assigned.
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

CMC has two physically separated housing complexes, commonly referred to as “East” and “West”. An emphasis is placed on providing all inmates with programs for self-improvement. These programs include academic and vocational education, work skills in prison industries and inmate self-help groups.
The Level III housing complex (East), which houses medium security general population inmates, is divided into four facilities. Each facility has its own dining room, classrooms, athletic fields, and two three-story housing units. The East housing complex has a fully licensed Correctional Treatment Center as well as a fully licensed 50 bed Mental Health Crisis Unit.
The West housing complex contains a Level I camp program for fire suppression, conservation, and other community service work.
Special Requirements
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Eligibility Information

Minimum Qualifications
Experience: One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Cook Specialist II (Correctional Facility) or a Cook Specialist II.
Experience: Two years of experience in a supervisory capacity over cooks and other food service workers with responsibility for supervising and assisting with the preparation, cooking, and serving of various food items. and
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
