This position ishybrid-basedinWashington DC officeorremote based in a state in the US where WRI is registered. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

About the Program:

The Greenhouse Gas Protocolis the worlds leading authority and international standard setter on corporate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions accounting. Over 92% of Fortune 500 companies that report emissions data to CDP rely on the GHG Protocol standards and guidance.Building on a twenty-year partnership betweenWorld Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the GHG Protocol works with governments, industry associations, NGOs, businesses, and other organizations. The GHG Protocol also providesstandards;tools and online training to help countries and cities track progress towards their climate goals.

Job Highlight:

Reporting to the Corporate Standard Manager, you will develop updates and additional guidance for the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard through a global multistakeholder process. The scope of potential updates and additional guidance will be determined based on the results of a recent global survey and in consultation with GHG Protocol governance bodies. You will support the development process for updates and additional guidance, which will involve engaging with members of the global, multi-stakeholder Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Corporate Standard. You will also develop technical support resources, guidance, and tools based on the existing GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, to facilitate its continued use and adoption. You will work as part of a dynamic team and support the work of the GHG Protocol generally as needs arise. You will work with technical experts at WRI, WBCSD, and other GHG Protocol teams.

What will you do:

Develop updates, additional guidance, tools and resources for the GHG Protocol CorporateStandard and support the updates process(75%):-

  • Be a technical leadto developupdates and additional guidance for the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard through a multi-stakeholder process, including drafting proposed standard text
  • Conduct research and stakeholder consultations to understand needs and proposed solutions for updates or new guidance for the Corporate Standard
  • Research guidelines developed by other initiatives and coordinate with other programs such as the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), CDP, emerging regulatory frameworks such as those from EFRAG in Europe and the SEC in theUS, industry-specific initiatives and other climate disclosure programs and standards to assess interoperability and harmonization
  • Engage with different stakeholders from business, government, civil society, and academia during the updates process
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, issue briefs, proposals, or other materialsas part of the standard and guidance development process, and present on behalf of GHG Protocol at external events and program engagements

    Develop and maintain GHG Protocol support, guidance, calculation tools, and resources for theCorporate Standard to promote adoption and effective use by organizations(25%):-

    • Review external methodologies and GHG accounting guidance andreporting guidance and tools developed by external organizations as part of “Built on GHG Protocol” review service
    • Identify, specify, and/or develop new tools, templates, and resources (e.g., calculation tools, emission factor databases, data transfer templates, reporting templates)to support more widespread, robust, and effectiveGHGaccounting and reporting (tools may be developed in-house or contracted out via RFPs)
    • ContributeCorporate Standard materialsand e-learning courses led by the Technical Support & Training team and Learning Program at GHG Protocol
    • Provide technical advice to users of the GHG ProtocolCorporate Standardas needs arise
    • Support other Greenhouse Gas Protocol projects and activities during the updates process as needs arise

      What will you need:

      • Education:You have aBachelor’sdegreepreferablyin a relevant field related to sustainability or environmental science/ management. Applicants with professional formation in the sciences, engineering, financial accounting, and other relevant disciplines will be considered
      • Experience: Youhavea minimumof7years ofwork experiencein relevant domains including Greenhouse Gas accounting, sustainability reporting, climate mitigation, financial accounting, or related areas
      • Experience with Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards and the Corporate Standard in particular
      • Experience in project management and multi-stakeholder processes and proven ability to build partnerships and consensus withmultiplestakeholders.
      • Preferred: Experience with any other relevant standards and programs such as ISO 14064, CDP, SBTi, or emerging mandatory reporting frameworks such as those from EFRAG and US SEC.
      • Knowledge of financial accounting standards and best practices or experience in verification/assurance of GHG inventories also a plus.
      • Languages:Written and spoken proficiency in English
      • Requirements: Existing work authorization isrequired where this position.WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

        Potential Salary:Salary range is between96,000 and 110,000 USD.Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
