Description:
The Associate Corporate Counsel – Employment will work collaboratively with the Law Department, Human Resources, and Employee Relations and Compliance Team. This role will be responsible for implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of employment litigation management and employee relations and compliance activities and programs. This role is highly focused on working with internal and external stakeholders to continuously evaluate programs and process flows to drive operational efficiencies so that litigation and compliance objectives are met. This role will have a particular focus on litigation management and strategy, program excellence, data integrity, process improvement, risk mitigation and regulatory compliance.Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain systems for HR compliance documentation and SOP documentation and postings.
- Investigate and handle EEOC and state/local labor department Charges, DOL audits, and attorney demand letters with limited supervision (including investigations, settlement negotiations, and hearings).
- Oversee and manage the employment litigation docket (including selection of, and coordination with, outside counsel), with the oversight of the AVP – Employment Practices.
- Provide guidance on interpretation and application of existing and new regulatory and employment law requirements.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to implement a Company-wide strategy and approach to align compliance requirements with employment practices and business objectives.
- Lead HR effort to complete annual compliance work plan initiatives and partner with Compliance team to establish performance metrics and reports to enterprise leadership and compliance committees.
- Ensure ongoing education and training of internal business partners on risk and compliance related topics in response to ongoing or new legal and compliance requirements and in remediation of compliance issues.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of standard operating procedures and systems needed to comply with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor known risks, internal control effectiveness, and the remediation of process deficiencies.
- Collaborate with Information Security team to perform annual compliance risk assessment and develop joint annual work plan.
- Provide guidance to stakeholders when specific HR/compliance issues arise.
- Perform research in emerging HR compliance subjects and issues as requested.
- Partner with the functional leaders to roll out Company-wide HR/compliance initiatives.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Audit current employee handbooks and HR policies and continuously update.
- Perform random compliance audits on HR processes.
- Manage audit, performance metrics, and reporting processes, including coordination between functions and groups internally and externally.
- Oversee follow up and remediation on findings/recommendations from audits.
Required Education and Experience:
- 2+ years of employment litigation experience
- 2+ years of HR experience, or experience providing legal advice to clients regarding HR-related matters
- Juris Doctor Degree – must be and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction
