Primary Purpose
Advance Sempra's brand and values by developing strategies and managing the day-to-day activities of the company's memberships in key business, industry and trade associations. Prioritize investments, coordinate board and committee assignments, regularly review and refresh portfolio, and represent Sempra externally. Manage strategic non-profit board assignments for company leadership that align with giving priorities. Manage the company's political action committee, SEEPAC, including all associated programs; membership development, fundraising and marketing; and communications and member events. Oversees the SEEPAC board meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the company's membership strategy and engagement in trade, industry, and non-charitable organizations that advance Sempra's brand and values and support its business strategy and objectives. Prioritizes investments, coordinates board and committee assignments, and regularly reviews and refreshes portfolio. Supports executive engagement, and, at times, represents Sempra at these meetings and events. Develops regular communications to internal constituents to highlight information shared at these meetings.
- Proactively seeks out and creates new memberships and partnerships that advance the company's business priorities. Identifies thought-leadership and relationship-building opportunities from existing memberships and partnerships, and other value-added initiatives to maximize the company's funding and time investment of participants.
- Manages the company's political action committee, SEEPAC, including member recruitment and solicitation. Develop materials and maintains compliance related to SEEPAC's quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
- Manages SEEPAC member relations, devises strategies to increase awareness, membership, revenues and participation in PAC-related events and activities among eligible management employees. Oversees all back-office support including systems, processes, procedures and records retention.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in business, public policy, political science, marketing, public relations or a related field, required.
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in external affairs, marketing, public policy, public affairs, community relations, or relevant roles, required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to motivate employees, drive innovation and lead change initiatives while maintaining employee engagement.
- Strategic thinker with a strong grasp of business trends and a demonstrated ability to influence key decisions.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Public speaking experience.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and activities in a timely manner and be responsible for specific outcomes.
- Relationship management skills with meticulous follow-through and presentation skills.
- Previous management experience of both personnel and programs.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills, and executive presence.
- Sound problem-solving skills, ability to objectively analyze current practices, identify root cause problems and improvement opportunities, formulate a range of achievable options, outline relative strengths, build consensus for a preferred solution.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
- We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
