Under the supervision of the camp director, the camp counselor plans, organizes, and supervises all camp activities for the assigned group Of Campers. The camp counselor, along with the assigned camp counselors, is responsible for the safety and well being of the group Of Campers.
Job Summary:
- Develop lesson plans of activities for the entire three weeks Of Camp.
- Assigns camp counselors to campers and supervises both the camp counselors and campers during all activities.
- Makes weekly verbal contact with the camper's caregiver/parents to notify them of upcoming events and progress of each assigned camper.
- Evaluate camp counselors during the last week Of Camp.
- Carries out other duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have experience working with special needs population.
- Must have previous experience of successfully leading groups of children in camp or other group settings.
- Must obtain first aid and community CPR/AED certification or provide proof of CPR/AED training prior to the start Of Camp.
- Ability to read staff manuals, memoranda, and attendance sheets.
- Ability to complete attendance sheets, accident reports, incident reports and camper behavior reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, and style.
- Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, citizens, and the public as well as other individuals.
- Ability to perform various camp-related activities in outdoor settings including walking significant distances, running, or standing for extended periods of time.
- Occasional lifting of individuals with special needs may be necessary for safety/risk issues.
- Occasional heavy lifting of program equipment may be necessary.
Rate:
Starting at $23.00/ hour
Schedule:
This is a part-time, seasonal summer position. Schedule includes three consecutive weeks during the summer. Typical working hours are 8:00am-3:00pm at camp location.
