Copy Editor/Writer

We are seeking a talented magazine, digital and collateral Copy Editor/Writer with proven experience. This position is responsible for copy editing print and digital media under the direction of the Project Director. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of all written content produced by the company. This position also supports various company departments who need copyedit and/or written copy assistance.

Content includes food, lifestyle, beauty, pet care, health and wellness, faith, money management, crafts, flowers, decor and more.

Responsibilities:

• Review and revise content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax or formatting issues to ensure polished final content.
• In addition to text, work includes recipes, charts, video captions and other devices.
• Confirm story goals; ensure deks are concise and stories meet expectations.
• Verify claims and ensure sources are reputable and relevant.
• Ensure company style is followed for multiple publications using various reference resources.
• Review content prior to client submission and incorporate client edits and rewrites based on client feedback.
• Work collaboratively with creative and editorial teams to meet high standards.
• Marks proofs for changes.
• Uses standard style guides, such as the Chicago Manual.
• Skilled in using reference resources.
• Utilize BusyCal to track assignments and work schedule.
• Write copy for assigned projects as needed.
• Maintain a positive attitude.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of editorial experience at a publication.
• Excellent writing and proofreading abilities.
• Experience working in a deadline-driven environment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Exacting attention to detail.
• High level of motivation.
• Positive attitude.
• Competence in Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Marketing background is a plus
