Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Support the Volunteer Services effort by coordinating and overseeing the volunteer needs in the various volunteer functions in the Main Garden and the Children’s Garden under the direction of the Volunteer Manager. Assure that volunteer positions are staffed; promptly and courteously assist volunteers with any issues that arise.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Train and manage one time corporate and student groups when scheduled.
- Monitor volunteers to answer questions and provide breaks when necessary.
- Provide tours of the Children’s Garden to volunteer groups, other departments, and guests as needed.
- Responsible for coordinating Main Garden volunteers as needed.
- Provide breaks, water, snacks; inform Volunteer Manager when these items need restocking.
- Provide assistance when necessary with a volunteer issue and contact the proper department (i.e. Operations, Horticulture, Public Education, or Facilities) to follow up.
- Maintain up to date awareness of Dallas Arboretum activities and relevant information that may effect volunteer services; assure that volunteers receive accurate and timely information/materials. Record volunteer hours in the volunteer database in a timely and accurate manner, including updating and maintaining current volunteer profiles.
Assist the Volunteer Manager with the Teen Leadership Council and Collegiate Leadership Council, including
Requirements, scheduling, and volunteer duties
Assist Volunteer Manager with volunteer fairs and outreach
Process lost and found items according to the Volunteer guides
Assist the Senior Manager of Volunteers and Volunteer Manager with additional tasks in the Volunteer Office as needed
REGUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS OR COMPETENCIES:
High School Graduate with some Community College Preferred
One year office experience desired; experience working with volunteers preferred
Good verbal and good written communication skills
Basic computer skills and ability to learn volunteer software databases.
Ability to sit for extended periods to perform data entry.
Physical ability to train volunteers in various volunteer functions and locations in the garden, including outside, and to respond quickly to volunteer issues throughout the garden.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Full time Thursday thru Monday.
Driver’s license to drive a golf cart on property as needed

Handle multiple tasks effectively and calmly
