Job description

The Coordinator ofStudent Activities and Leadership Development is responsible for engaging all students. This person leads, plans, and coordinates the Student Activities programs on campus that will enrich and enhance the student’s overall experience. The coordinator will supervise student organizations and facilitate meetings and partnerships that will further improve students’ engagement on campus and in the community. Reporting and working with the Assistant Dean of Students, this position includes the option to live on-campus in a fully furnished apartment (or reside within a 15-minute radius of campus) and will also serve in the Student Affairs professional staff on-call rotation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Engages and mentors’ students, student leaders, and graduate student staff.
• Plans a robust calendar of Student events for the academic year and ensure staff representation at all events.
• Advise and train the Campus Activities Board and provides leadership training for all student leaders.
• Co-advises Student Government Association (SGA).
• Oversees a student-led Campus Activities Board.
• Leads student organizations by providing Leadership Development and advisor training.
• Create and implement training for SGA leaders, focusing on goal setting, Leadership Development, financial management, team building, and transition planning.
• Maintains budgets for all student-led groups and activities with SGA Treasurer.
• Oversee student organization budgets, assist student organizations in reserving space, procuring vendors and supplies for events.
• Support student-led programming efforts for on and off-campus activities, including working with vendors, venues, and performers to secure quotes and contracts; partner with campus departments in implementation
• Assist SGA leaders in identifying goals and outcomes for the year and a plan for implementation.
• Maintains accurate records of all Student Activities events and Student Government Association activities (including event proposals, budgets, contacts, contracts, media/publicity, and evaluations).
• Coordinates, prepares, and disseminates publications related to student clubs, Student Activities, and student services, to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Assists in preparing and editing student flyers, posters, literature, and other materials prepared by student groups for on and off-campus distribution. Implements and oversees processes for posting/distributing of materials on campus as requested.
• Maintain and implement policies, procedures, handbook, and training for student organization officers and advisors, including budget development, financial management, risk management, and event planning.
• Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and training of First Year Mentors and Welcome Week leaders as needed.
• Provide support to New Student Orientation and Welcome Week events and programming for incoming first-year and transfer students and their families and guests.
• Along with Coordinator of Residence Life and Housing, determine developmental programming expectations for Resident Assistants and assess programmatic needs for the residential student community.
• Serves as part of the Residence Life on-call rotation.
• Organizes joint programs and events with other departments in Student Engagement and across campus.
• Offers innovative ideas and implements new program ideas.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
• At least two years of experience in Student Activities, student affairs or higher education is required. • Experience in residence life as a professional or at a student level is preferred. • Must have experience and abilities in staff oversight, management and planning, record keeping, programming, and mediation.
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Must be able and willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
• Needs a demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with a diverse population to enhance and further the mission of the University.
• Must be able to work well under pressure, work independently, take initiative, and oversee a variety of projects simultaneously.
