Cook/Custodian

The Salvation Army Corps in Santa Fe, NM is looking to fill a Cook/Custodian position. The successful candidate will have previous experience as a line cook or equivalent training and previous experience in a custodial setting.

This position will split duties between Kitchen and Custodial duties. Kitchen responsibilities will include assisting staff with planning menus, seasoning, cooking and preparing food according to recipes and experience for shelter clients. This position will be responsible for the daily cleaning of kitchen area, equipment and utensils to maintain sanitary food handling practices. Other kitchen duties will include overseeing deliveries from purveyors, maintaining inventory and providing coverage and supervision of clients.

Custodial duties for this position will include but are not limited to cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, moping all floors, vacuuming carpeted areas, maintaining janitorial supply inventory and cleaning windows and doors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Two years of experience as a line cook or equivalent formal training.
• Experience in custodial work strongly preferred.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
• Able to maintain a non-judgement attitude, professional approach and boundaries with clients.
• Able to handle emergency situations including crowd management and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays if need be.
• Employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
