This class is responsible for preparing food and maintaining a sanitary environment.Some positions within this classification may be considered as safety sensitive and will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace. This position is a grade A122.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

• Cooks and prepares food according to established or special menus.
• Assists in overseeing the work of inmates and volunteers or other assigned personnel.
• Serves food to customers.
• Maintains a safe and sanitary environment.
• Maintains records of inventories, assists in ordering supplies and assists in determining the cost of meals.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Training and Experience (positions in this class require):

• High School Diploma, or G.E.D.;
• or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing Requirements (positions in this class require):
Some positions require:

• Valid Driver's License from state of residency.

• Health and sanitation principles;
• Basic food preparation principles;
• Basic office principles;
• Basic food service equipment;
• Principles and practices of basic safety with cleansing products;
• Basic mathematical skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Positions in this class require: reaching, standing, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
• Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Vision requirement that an individual must be able to determine color variations to be able to detect spoiled foods.
• Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, fumes, odors, and extreme temperatures.
