Job description

Prepares quality meals and snacks following all company and health standards while adhering to all dietary

needs of the children in our care. Delivers quality food service, operational compliance, and other

responsibilities. Responsible for daily cleanliness of the center. Occasionally called upon to support

classrooms when needed for teachers’ breaks or staffing needs. Cook reports to the Director.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience

● 1+ years of institutional cooking experience preferred

● 1+ years of experience working with children

● 1+ years of experience ordering food and related supplies desirable

● Criminal Record Clearance

● CA AB1207 Mandated Reporter Training certificate

● Health Screening, TB, and Immunization records for MMR, Tdap, and flu

Educational Qualifications

● High School Diploma or equivalent, at least 12 Early Childhood Education units preferred

● Meets education criteria required by the state if any

● CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain

General Responsibilities

● Maintain kitchen and related equipment safety and hygiene in accordance with the center’s needs

● Order food supplies in a timely manner

● Responsible for maintenance during school hours, i.e., sweeping, mopping, vacuuming of rooms,

cleaning of bathrooms, emptying waste baskets, taking garbage out, cleaning counters, cleaning

dishes from breakfast, lunch and snacks, occasional cleaning of windows and other maintenance

duties as defined by the Director or Assistant Director

● Periodically assist with breaks for staff and fill in for staff as needed

● Keep the Director informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children

● Arrive to the workplace regularly and on time, follows appropriate call in procedures and is

dependable overall

● Complete timely and accurate documentation according to Achievers and other licensing or

regulation requirements

● Assist and accept responsibilities in other center duties that might be temporary in the event other

personnel are not available

● Use time wisely and take initiative when appropriate

● Attend and participate in staff meetings, center events, and parent/customer meetings as required

● Adhere to and act in line with the company mission and values at all times

● Be a supportive and contributing member of the team

● Consistently demonstrate a positive and professional attitude

● May be called upon for off-site activities related to team-building with co-workers

● Participate in impromptu and scheduled safety drills with the children

● Assists director with the placement of materials for teachers and school operations.

Job Knowledge/Skills

● Familiarity with proper conditions and food storage

● Ability to plan nutritious menus and prepare sufficient quantity of foods for center population

● Ability to understand and follow special food plans for food allergic children or children with other

food service special needs

● Ability to understand food cross-contamination needs of food allergic children and implement

methods of food-contamination avoidance

● Basic math skills required for measuring and calculating serving portions

● Excellent organizational skills

● Strong time management skills

● Strong communication skills both verbal and written

● Flexible to support in the classroom on occasion

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in the center environment. Centers are dynamic with a high level of activity.

Work may also be performed at community sites for field trips.

● Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and stand for up to 95% of the day

● Assume posture at low levels, stoop, and bend down numerous times per day

● Agility to move from seated to standing position quickly to respond to children or demands in the

kitchen

● Possess acceptable hearing and vision capabilities in order to monitor the needs of the kitchen

● Work hours may vary to accommodate the needs of the program

● Handle materials in any industrial-type kitchen

● Work with hot food and liquids

● Lift foods and food storage containers and move them about as necessary

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.25 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 – 7 per week
