Converting Tooling Specialist

Position Summary:

The Converting Tooling Specialist holds a pivotal role within the manufacturing operation, ensuring the availability and proper maintenance of essential tools and equipment to produce flexible packaging materials. This position also collaborates closely with the Maintenance team, manages inventory, participates in scheduling meetings, and maintains a professional and positive demeanor, fully understanding the critical nature of the role. In the event of absence, these job responsibilities will be covered by others in the Maintenance department.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Likewise, this description will be revised when required to meet current business needs. In addition to the previously mentioned responsibilities, the Converting Tooling Specialist is expected to:

• Recognize and acknowledge the criticality of their role in ensuring the smooth operation of the manufacturing process.
• Maintain a consistently energetic and positive attitude, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment.
• Conduct all business activities with the utmost degree of professionalism, adhering to company standards and ethics.
• Clean, sharpen, calibrate, and store all Converting equipment tooling.
• Replace pads on the Converting Tooling.
• Add tracking methods to tools and equipment and maintain records.
• Conduct routine cycle counts for inventory accuracy.
• Collaborate with production to maintain make-ready equipment.
• Participate in make-ready functions and Autonomous Maintenance.
• Prioritize safety and machine safety.
• Track and request materials and parts for equipment maintenance.
• Maintain open communication with team members and other associates.
• Ensure all responsibilities align with company and quality procedures.
• Support teamwork, cooperation, and continuous improvement.
• Meetings will include but not limited to daily planning and communication meetings, root cause analysis, and Kaizen events.

Performance Requirements:

• Adherence and alignment to PPC's Safety Culture and objective of Zero Safety Incidents. Adherence to GMP and food safety standards, with no repeat violations.
• Adherence to all QMS standards for Food Safety including obtaining all signatures required to complete and close out assigned work orders.
• No more than 1 attendance point in the first 90 days from date of hire and maintain less than 8 points at any given time after the first 90 days.
• All Associates must adhere to the Converting 6S and inventory control programs.
• Provide proper care of the machines and equipment that results in zero damage and safety incidents.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Detail orientation required for completing required paperwork and information system inputs with a high degree of accuracy.
• Position requires communication, computer, organizational and customer service skills.
• Able to create and maintain data spreadsheets.
• Able to read and understand blueprints and machinery manuals and accept verbal direction to successfully complete procedures and assigned tasks.
• Capable of performing mathematical calculations, and properly using tape measures and micrometers.
• Flexibility in work assignments and priorities is required to address the dynamic needs of our customers and shifts in production requirements.
• Good verbal and written communication skills required, and proven experience with effective teams and continuous improvement methods strongly preferred.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and ensure proper handling of items up to 75 pounds.
• Must be capable of standing for the duration of a work shift less breaks and lunch.
• Must be capable and willing to work more than a normal workweek with notice, as outlined in the Personnel Handbook, as maintenance coverage demands dictate.
• Due to the nature of our business, the Converting Tooling Specialist must be available for possible call-ins during off hours in the event of major machine breakdowns.
• Must be able to ensure work quality in a fast-paced production environment.
• Must be able to troubleshoot, identify, prioritize, and meet multiple expectations for area of responsibility.
• Must provide your own hand tools and toolbox, with the company providing all other specialty tools and equipment.
