Duties & responsibilities:

1.    Main job goals

  • The main purpose of this position is to lead and manage the US Controls Engineering group which is responsible for developing US standards and executing jobs relative to hardware design, software design, start-up activities through supporting of commissioning functions at the end customer’s site.
  • The Controls Engineering Manager is an integral player in leading US Controls in collaboration with other Güdel global entities to learn, share and expand innovative solutions.
  • Engaging and supporting Sales and Application groups for potential new opportunities during the sales phase either by attending meetings, reviewing specifications and/or providing technical feedback for quoting activity and pricing validation.

2.    Main tasks / responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with Global contacts to create a technical strategy to support Güdel US Strategic Deployment
  •  Understand internal and external customer needs from a Controls engineering perspective
  • Build a controls product roadmap from development to field execution with an actionable plan for Güdel’s products, services, and ground support to enable Güdel to execute solutions projects profitably
  • Formulate a deep understanding of Voice of Customer (VOC) positioning and develop controls technology which exceeds the competition
  • Identify risks as well as solutions for internal engineers or external partners required to complete job related activities
  • Participate in vendor and partner review and selection
  • Partner with Sales & Applications Engineering to validate and manage the controls scope, material budgets and hours allotment for quoting jobs as requested
  • Drive the improvement of departmental effectiveness and efficiencies while assuring Controls processes are optimal and in alignment with other departmental processes
  • Analyze current capacity needs and future capacity needs by taking the initiative to utilize the sales pipeline for projects that include controls
  • Coordinate with Service on all start-ups to train for on-site commissioning
  • Manage performance of Controls team (lead, mentor and grow talent)
  • Ensures performance objectives are monitored and feedback is given in a timely manner
  • Identify technical skills gaps and upskilling current team members
  • Monitor workload of engineers (assign jobs and schedules)
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
  • Support Lean practices and concepts
  • Support ISO requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

3.    Education, professional (skills) and language skills

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology, or related field
  • A strong understanding of engineering methodologies; having worked as a Controls Engineer in the industrial automation industry
  • Proficient reading, oral, and written English language skills

4.    Work experience requirements / experience in specific working area

  • 15+ years’ experience combined in a Controls Engineering position with at least 5 years in a senior level role
  • 7+ years’ experience working with start-up at a diversified automation equipment, debug and
    installation commissioning
  • Experience with outsourcing Controls Engineering
  • Working knowledge with AB, Siemens, Beckhoff, E-Plan
  • Deep understanding of Pneumatics and Electrical (PLC software, servo drive technology)
  • Track record for employee development; leading groups with new Controls Technology, seminars, classes, and continued training
  • Demonstrated ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches, and
    departmental contribution

  • Ability to achieve results through delegating and motivating others
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally
