JOB DESCRIPTION: R&D Controls Engineer Intern

Packsize is currently seeking a junior or senior (if planning on grad school) student working on an engineering degree to work as an intern in the R&D Hardware group. This is a part time position for summer 2024 with an option to become a full time intern during the following summer (2025). Note that a full-time engineering position is not guaranteed. The candidate will be working with a team of multidiscipline R&D engineers on numerous aspects of the product design and development cycle.
Desired basic skills and competencies:
- Working on a bachelor's degree (BS) from a four-year college or university in any engineering discipline: Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Chemical etc.
- Programming fundamentals (C, Matlab, Python etc.)
- Strong career interest in automation equipment
- Work closely with senior engineers to design, develop and troubleshoot packaging machinery
- Independent and self-motivated
- Rapid prototyping (fail fast and learn quickly)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and competent using modern communication tools
Following skills and competencies are a plus:
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers
- Application development experience in text-based language (C, C++, C#, Python)
- Advanced motion control programming or robotic programming
- Industrial Ethernet (EtherCAT, PowerLink etc..)
- Familiar with various closed-loop feedback control strategies
- Control program debugging and troubleshooting
- IEC 61131-2/PLCopen programming languages
