Our client, a mid-market construction and renovation company, is seeking a Controller for a subsidiary in Portland, OR. As part of the senior management team, this position will oversee all accounting and financial strategy for the company. The position will involve very hands-on involvement in the day-to-day accounting as well as determining long-range planning for the firm. Ideal candidate will have a CPA, construction experience, and a blend of accounting, project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal reporting. This individual will report directly to the divisional President.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with Senior Management regarding financial policies, procedures, job costing, and/or other accounting issues to ensure quality review and strategic planning.
- Keeps the President informed of any operational, accounting, and/or personnel details that may impair the company’s ability to operate at an optimal level.
- Performs or supervises the monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts for all companies. This includes all cash-related accounts, A/R, prepaid accounts, fixed assets, A/P, credit cards, payroll & related accounts, accruals, inter-company accounts, etc.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Performs or supervises the review all monthly and income statement accounts, ensuring their accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness.
- Researches and reports variances between actual results and budgeted/forecasted projections.
- Oversees project cost control and monitoring, including forensic job analysis, to ensure proper job costing and correction of procedures to allow efficient and accurate reporting.
- Assists CPA with quarterly tax reporting for all companies.
- Liaises with CPA to ensure income taxes and financials are presented appropriately.
- Ensure proper internal controls are in place
- Provides a variety of analysis on projects
- Supports continual process improvements and system enhancements
- Supervises accounting staff to ensure consistent completion of all financial tasks in an efficient, effective, and accurate manner.
Qualifications:
- B.A. degree in Accounting, CPA preferred.
- 10-15 years of progressive Accounting experience, construction or project accounting environment preferred
- General understanding of Accounting principles related to US GAAP
- Advanced knowledge of analysis, reporting, and accounting
- Strong skills with mid-tier ERP systems
