As the Control Systems Engineering Leader, you will lead the development and delivery of high-performance, innovative products, prioritizing operational support system by providing an API-based platform, streamlining network access and management for customers while enhancing control and management plane services for seamless user connectivity. In this role, you bring extensive experience, a deep understanding of technology, and strong leadership skills with a focus on software.

The ideal candidate has an established track record of success building and growing high-performing, software and security-oriented teams, while serving multiple constituencies, such as the modern enterprise, service provider, and engineering development communities, with a focus on objective metrics and results to measure success. They possess a unique blend of technical and business acumen and are not afraid to dive right into challenges with a “lead by example” approach. In this role, they will lead a dynamic engineering team to develop top-tier software platforms for a global service provider across diverse markets and geographies, fostering innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit. This position requires high caliber strategic and business decision-making, technology and market awareness, as well initiative, influencing skills and the ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries to transform that vision and roadmap into a reality to achieve our shared mission.
The day-to-day:
  • Viasat is looking for a technology and software leader to guide our innovative, Control Systems Platforms, developing and driving the product platform and roadmap, while helping set the vision and drive the successful execution of Viasat’s global Ground Networks technology strategy
  • You will be responsible for strategic demand planning, governance, and financial compliance for the division
  • Drive to create a versatile service-based architecture which will be key to the Viasat Global expansion. Your ability to synthesize the needs of internal and external customers, perform market and competitor analysis, determine product priorities for the development teams, and manage the successful execution of complex development projects will be put to the test in this exciting role. Coupled with a successful track record leading multi-disciplined engineering teams, transformational leadership, skilled consensus-building and cost-conscious project management skills will place you in an awesome position to succeed in this role
  • Lead and drive a data platform and data strategy
  • You will ultimately be responsible for products that deliver a fantastic experience for our customers and contribute to a meaningful impact on service growth
  • Building, leading and driving multiple world-class software engineering product teams including provisioning (CAF, UDM, SDP API, CM-T, MARS, Service Feasibility, SGMS, CapMP, and RS2) and transport control (VASN, VOS, VIPPS)
  • Overseeing product lifecycle from inception to delivery through sustaining operations to appropriate technology refresh and replacement
  • Partnering with product management to ensure the proper positioning and adoption of access network technology products and services
  • Leading innovation efforts including the definition, research and development, and architecture of next-generation Control Systems for provisioning and transport control
  • Relentless focus on continuous improvement objectives and metrics that optimize the value stream including self-service, automation, ML, and AI
What you'll need:
  • 10+ years of experience in software product development and management, and/or “hyperscale" technology development and service delivery
  • 5+ years of experience managing software product development teams, integrating both in-house product, service and tool development, as well as leveraging 3rd party / service provider solutions
  • Experience with, and demonstrated delivery leveraging, Agile methodologies, DevOps principles, and “software as a service" at scale
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication/presentation skills with strong ability to influence people at all levels and in various functions
  • Strong awareness of technology and architecture trends and their potential influence and applicability to Viasat’s business and strategic objectives, while being able to demonstrate the business and market value of said trends to Viasat
  • Strong teaming skills and experience to bring together diverse views, disciplines, and approaches
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Curiosity for leveraging data and metrics to identify challenging opportunities and build impactful solutions.
  • Creates, fosters, and protects an inclusive, collaborative and fun way of learning, sharing experiences, and enabling the growth of Viasat team members
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree

Salary range: $202,400.00 - $364,600.00 / annually : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
