Job description

Duties include collaborating with the OBGYN offices to schedule and post cases in The Birth Center Procedure Area, working with the multidisciplinary team to add on emergent cases in a timely manner, and calling patients to confirm appointments and give pre-op instructions.  Strong communicative skills with great customer service is essential for this role.  

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for sending for patients, posting add-on/emergent cases, handling multiple phone calls from inside and outside of the department, as well as being an administrative resource to the Inpatient Operating Room staff, residents and faculty. Ensures that all contacts with patients, physicians, hospital personnel, and the public are conducted in a courteous, helpful and considerate manner.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma required.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: N/A

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Responsible for sending for patients, communicating with the nursing unit to see how patient will travel to the Operating Room and contact the transporter to transport the patient to the Operating Room. 2. Handles multiple phone calls related to posting add-on and emergent cases from residents/surgeons, as well as general questions from other departments. 3. Maintains detailed transportation tracking records. 4. Coordinates supply needs requested by the Nursing Units with the OR Inventory Department. 5. Responsible for contacting the Surgical Services Scheduling Center in regards to case cancellations for current day and for the next day, as well as communicates with them about any cases that were cancelled during the night. 6. Communicates with Clinical Coordinators regarding specific case needs or requests and assists the Charge Nurse in making sure the daily schedule runs efficiently by reporting any changes, additions, etc. to the schedule. 7. Responsible for printing pick lists and patient stickers when requested, as well as print OR schedules for vendors and Operating Room Staff and faculty. 8. Monitors and coordinates OR access and scrub access for third party vendors. 9. Communicates courteously, promptly and appropriately to patients, family members and health care providers strictly adhering to HIPPA guidelines. 10. Communicates with the Emergency Department to obtain patient and surgeon data when emergent traumas arise.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Good oral, written, and listening communication skills Maintains technical knowledge related to EPIC, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Medical Terminology, etc Computer skills, word processing and spreadsheets
