Job Description
Preoperative Registered Nurse (RN)
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled preoperative registered nurse (RN) to join our surgical team. As a preop RN, you will be responsible for preparing patients for surgery, ensuring their safety and comfort, and providing education and support. You will also collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide preoperative instructions to patients about topics such as diet and activity restrictions, medication instructions, and postoperative healing instructions
- Obtain medical histories on new patients, update existing records, and file reports with other healthcare providers as needed
- Perform nursing duties such as changing bandages, administering intravenous fluids, and taking vital signs
- Assist physicians during surgeries by performing routine tasks such as preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and setting up surgical instruments
- Monitor patients’ conditions throughout their hospital stays, communicating with other healthcare providers as needed
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients during stressful times such as surgery or recovery from injury or illness
- Serve as a liaison between the patient, family, physician, and other health care providers
- Provide education and support to patients who are transitioning to home after a hospital stay
- Coordinate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure that patients receive high-quality care throughout their treatment periods
Requirements:
- Current RN license in the state of Arizona
- Bachelor’s degree OR Associates in nursing or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of experience as a preop RN or in a related field
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Knowledge of preoperative nursing standards and practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
