JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

The Contracting Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision and coordination of provider contracting workflow and staff for his/her designated team in alignment with quality and efficiency goals, national standard policy and procedure and operational priorities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises the day-to-day provider contracting workflow and performance of his/her designated team including the quality and timely verification of new, edit and termination contract requests and preparation and management of all provider contract documents and data resulting from those requests. This duty includes the delegation and prioritization of workload and allocation of resources to meet deadlines and expectations.
  • Ensures completion of specific tasks and assignments to meet team/department goals and project requirements.
  • Assists the Director/Manager in monitoring compliance with standardized process and efficiency and quality goals.
  • Reports issues to the Director/Manager that might impact team performance or meeting goals/expectations.
  • Trains or facilitates training of new employees.
  • Conducts performance reviews for direct reports and addresses disciplinary and other employee relations matters in collaboration with Director/Manager and, if needed, HR.
  • Rounds on and coaches direct reports, providing ongoing performance and development feedback and ensuring staff have the skills and tools needed to perform their duties.
  • Keeps track of employee schedules and approves timecards and time off requests for direct reports.
  • Makes hiring, promotion and termination recommendations to the Director/Manager (note that Director/Manager has final authority to make these decisions).
  • Serves as a key business partner for contracting with leaders and stakeholders for the groups/service lines he/she supports to ensure alignment of expectations and goals and cross-functional process optimization.
  • Contributes to strategic decisions and planning for the team but all decisions/plans must be approved by Director/Manager for implementation.
  • Serves as first point of contact for process or resource concerns, escalating to Director/Manager as needed.
  • At the discretion of the Director/Manager, continue to manage a book of business or perform daily workflow tasks.
  • Participates in various meetings, including staff and department meetings and large group taskforce calls and serves on various project and work teams as requested.
  • Serves alongside the Director/Manager as a key contracting representative for new business acquisitions for the groups/service lines he/she supports and coordinates contracting activities for successful integration of new business.
  • Assists in drafting anomalous contract language and documents for Director, VP of Contracting and legal review and performs quality assurance on the most complex contract documents.
  • Ensures accurate, appropriate and routine maintenance of provider and facility contracting data to promote data integrity for reporting and operational processes. Performs routine quality assurance checks.
  • Assists the Director/Manager in ensuring the maintenance and utilization of all provider contract templates and language in conformance with national standard requirements and internal legal guidelines.
  • Ensures the creation and maintenance of all team resources and tools to support contracting work.
  • Responsible for maintaining facility contract data and communicating related updates to stakeholders as needed. Such duties may be delegated to a Lead Contracting Specialist with Director/Manager approval.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:      

  • Associate Degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • 2+ years of related professional experience required;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Ability to lead and coach others;
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization;
  • Possesses strong presentation and facilitation skills;
  • Creative thinker with analytical skills;
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to change and lead others through change;
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment;
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines and projects; and,
  • Strong understanding of business units and functional areas (HR, Legal, Compliance, Accounting, Provider Compensation, Recruiting, etc.) and how they integrate.
