Consumer (MARCUS BY GOLDMAN SACHS)

The firm’s Consumer business, Marcus by Goldman Sachs, combines the entrepreneurial spirit of a startup with more than 150 years of experience. Today, we serve millions of customers across multiple products including lending, deposits, financial tools, and our partnership with Apple on Apple Card. We use innovative design, data, engineering, and other core capabilities to provide customers with powerful tools and products that are grounded in value, transparency, and simplicity. As we build a leading digital consumer bank and expand into new products and partnerships, we are looking for leaders and individual contributors to join our team.

You will be part of the Data Science function for Marcus cards business and the Marcus App that caters to end to end customer life cycle. This would include but is not limited to transaction data processing and understanding, customer behavior analysis, customer segmentation, and marketing targeting.


Responsibilities

As part of the Data Science function for Marcus cards business and the Marcus App, one should be at the forefront of a data-driven initiative to optimize decision making and improve customer experience. This role entails:

  • Good understanding of predictive models and Data Science techniques
  • Research and experiment with natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) algorithms and techniques
  • Manages projects from end to end design, development, and implementation
  • Build up and validate prototypes for NLP and ML problems
  • Develop effective, maintainable code in a timely fashion
  • Implement an automated unit/integration testing system to validate defect-free code
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to established coding and architectural standards
  • Using version control to collaboratively develop software
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical ideas effectively

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
  • Strong data analytical skills, problem-solving and technical skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing NLP / ML systems using large data sets
  • Experience with ML techniques such as classification, clustering, recommendation, etc.
  • Proficient with SQL and experience with one or more DB query clients (e.g., Postgre, MySQL)
  • Solid experience in Python or Java
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment, communicate effectively & influence others
  • Proactive, flexible, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in analyzing credit card transaction data
  • Experience in information extraction, information retrieval, question answering, or related NLP fields
  • Experience with deep learning models
  • Experience with big data tools (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
  • D.’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering or a related field
