Job description

The OHSU Department of Psychiatry, part of the OHSU Brain Institute, focuses on providing excellent clinical treatment to our patients, leading innovative research, and offering hands-on training for the next generation of psychiatrists. Our specialists care for people of every culture and background and it is our mission to value and show appreciation for diversity, showing respect for all people who we treat, teach, and serve.

This position is an academic appointment employed in the OHSU Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with work primarily at Legacy Randall Children’s Hospital and Unity Center for Behavioral Health (a joint partnership between Adventist Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Legacy Health and OHSU). The ideal candidate will work well in teams and understand the value of this exciting, forward-thinking collaboration.

The Division is a fully accredited training program that seeks to deliver collaborative, high quality, compassionate, cost effective service that promotes education, research, and clinical leadership. Unity Center for Behavioral Health is an innovative patient-centered care environment for adults and adolescents experiencing a mental or behavioral health crisis. Randall Children’s Hospital (RCH) is one of two Children’s Hospitals in the State of Oregon and is owned and operated by Legacy Health Systems. RCH is dedicated to serving babies, children and teens from throughout the Pacific Northwest with specialists in nearly every area of pediatric care. This position will involve delivery of Psychiatric assessment and treatment services in the Pediatric hospital and ED setting and a newly established Bridge Clinic.

At RCH, children and teens present with primary or secondary behavioral health conditions requiring expert assessment, stabilization and referral to appropriate levels of care from a Consultation and Liaison (C-L) perspective. The Child Psychiatrist will lead an interdisciplinary team interfacing with ED teams and in patient pediatric teams as well as with providers in the Oregon continuum of care for children. The newly formed Bridge Clinic supports youth transitioning to the community after assessment in the ED or on the pediatric units as well as occasionally serving youth with urgent needs identified in the Pediatric Medical Home.

Both settings create opportunities for collaboration and interdisciplinary patient care with a focus on biopsychosocial approaches to complex patient evaluations and treatment planning. The Division of Child and Adolescent is a leader in supporting Oregon’s efforts to improve the effectiveness of the continuum of care and there may be opportunities for advocacy at a local and state level.

Randall Children’s Hospital and the Unity Center for Behavioral Health are closely affiliated settings. Unity’s Pediatric inpatient psychiatric program functions in concert with Randalls ED and pediatric floors. This position includes an expectation of weekend in patient Psychiatric Coverage for extra pay 8 weekends annually.

We are seeking an experienced Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist wishing to participate in this exciting opportunity.

  • Must be board-certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; licensed in the State of Oregon; significantly experienced with CL child psychiatry or inpatient child psychiatry.
