Job Description
The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Scientist position in the Division of Water Quality. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on the job level offered within the series. It is anticipated this position will be filled as an Environmental Scientist II.

The selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Scientist I with a salary range of $23.93 - $35.94, an Environmental Scientist II with a salary range of $28.16 - $42.30 per hour, or an Environmental Scientist III with a salary range of $33.14 - $49.79 per hour.
Work Location
This position may be eligible for an in-office, remote or hybrid/flexible work schedule after several days of in-office training during your first weeks of employment. Our office is located 195 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. Note: As of July 1, 2021, State of Utah Employees must either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.

Job Description
The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Scientist position in the Division of Water Quality. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on the job level offered within the series. Principal Duties
- Conducting compliance evaluation inspections
- Authoring inspections and audit reports, letters, technical reports and other science-based communications
- Conducting compliance assistance outreach and education
- Maintaining permit databases
The ideal candidate:
- Has at least 1 year of experience working in an environmental field ideally including regulatory experience
- Has knowledge of the Clean Water Act and the Utah Water Quality Act, NPDES/UPDES regulations and associated permits
- Has experience with construction site stormwater management and erosion and sediment control
- Is a good communicator, both verbally and written
- Can manage multiple complex tasks
- Can work independently as well as in a team environment
- Is adaptable and can adjust to changing priorities
- Can produce quality work and adhere to deadlines
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related engineering or science field,
- OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks.
