Job description

Applegreen is seeking a Construction Project Manager to lead the delivery of five new Service Plazas along the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. The role will work closely with Project Director in planning, coordinating, executing, and monitoring the fit outs and developments of the Group Developments Capital works projects. The project will require a variety of skills to deliver a combination of roles; management of the General contractor in their performance against schedule and quality - utilising the contract as the key tool, in addition to spear heading the project management of the retail FF&E works (c. 20% of overall project cost).
Job Title: Construction Project Manager
Position Summary:
The role is being created in a growing department within Applegreen that will spend in excess of $600m over the coming years on strategic capital projects. As such, the successful candidate will bring their own initiative to deliver the departments vision, all aligned with the wider Applegreen Vision and Core Values.
The successful candidate must demonstrate good commercial awareness, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be a strong communicator and prove they have the ability to be a leader within the central Group Team that will deliver the regional projects at pace. The role is ideal for someone seeking to scale the organization and grow their influence on the overall business. The successful candidate will report to the Project Director and while primarily based in the Applegreen US Head Office in Glen Rock, New Jersey, the role will require travel to the relevant project sites in the US in addition to those in the New Jersey state and meeting with our project partners; Architects, Engineers, consultants and contractors. From time to time there may be a requirement for travel to varying international jurisdictions across the Applegreen estate so a full driver's license and ability to undertake international travel are an essential requirement.
Requirements:

  • Lead the planning, co-ordination and execution of c. $10m of Fit out works for the five New Jersey Plazas
  • Hold the general contractor to account on their performance with regards schedule and quality.
  • Lead daily project management activities through all levels of store development. [Design, permitting, construction and restaurant turn-over.]
  • Check drawings, specifications and quantities and raise any issues in regards to construction
  • Manage the interface between conflicting trades and program
  • Liaise with consultants, directors, contractors engaged in the project as necessary
  • Supervise and monitor the site labour force and work of contractors on site
  • Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise
  • Ensure work is delivered in accordance with the specification
  • Fully interact with other members of the construction site team
  • Liaise with other department managers
  • Management of planning and implementation of assigned projects.
  • Delivery of projects in line with specifications and client contracts.
  • Developing and driving key relationships with the internal delivery team (sales, design, fabrication and construction crews).
  • Track, manage and communicate project milestones and attend site as and when required.
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders.
  • Use project management methodologies to ensure smooth delivery of works and continued accuracy of timelines and costs.
  • Manage changes to the project whilst maintaining a project Risk Register.
  • Complete Project reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions.
  • Robustly monitor and manage the project schedule with regards to 1) the GC's performance, 2) the Procurement teams performance and 3) the FF&E team's delivery performance all while ensuring that all key project stakeholders are updated.
  • Liaise with the Authority representatives where appropriate
  • Strong stakeholder liaison and communication - Applegreen is a Retailer lead business and ensuring a balance of delivering the business needs 'v' what is commercially reasonable is key to successful handover to our Operations team.
  • Co-ordinate with the in-house Applegreen Developments Applegreen of retail designers, quantity surveyors (cost management) and legal/contract management.

Education, Qualifications & Experience:
  • A BS/BEng in Engineering or Construction Management
  • 4+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience in Autodesk software - AutoCAD, Revit
  • Vast knowledge of Microsoft Office - notably Excel and Project
  • Experience in managing multiple projects at one time.
  • Experience in a commercial retail environment would be advantageous
  • Programme / Schedule management experience
