General Job Description: Rigs, unloads, carries, and ties reinforcing steel for concrete placement. Rigs, unloads, guides, aligns, places, fastens and welds all manner of structural steel members to erect steel structures. Directs operators and operates forklifts, man lifts and scissors lifts and generally performs duties as required to satisfy the overall purpose of the job.
Key Areas of Responsibility: Safety, quality and productivity, with minimal supervision, related to the work. Use of all safety and personal protective equipment for the purpose intended. Use of safety harness and lanyard for proper tie off. Must be aware of leading edge safety requirements for laying and fastening decking.
Required Skills / Training: Working knowledge and demonstrated skill with regard to: simple math, reading and writing English, and ability to read a tape measure. Reading blueprints. Demonstrated knowledge of all tools and equipment used to perform the work. Proper hazardous material handling and disposal. Proper tie off procedures. Hoisting signals.
Essential Job Requirements: Employees must be able to function well with regard to the following:
HEAVY WORK
Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Inclement weather, noise, dust, dirt and mud, mobile equipment, other contractors, and walking surfaces strewn with materials, power cords and tools is typical.
Work sites that change as a function of work availability.
Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs., routine lifting up to 50 lbs., up to 20 times per hour.
Bending for long periods of time while tying reinforcing steel together.
Walking on steel intersections over voided spaces while tying and carrying steel.
Any combination of standing, bending, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling and walking 8 to 10 hours per day.
Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and structures up to 100 feet high while tying and carrying steel.
Ability to work different shifts, up to 10 hour shifts and overtime as required by the work.
Full use of all limbs and dexterous use of hands.
Simultaneous mental and muscular coordination, visual and audio awareness of surrounding area.
