Position Summary

Are you an experienced Construction Inspector looking for an opportunity to further your career? Join our fun and fast paced team for the opportunity to contribute to our quickly expanding company. A Construction Project Manager with VS Engineering will engage in all aspects of construction inspection and materials field sampling/testing for various types of construction projects, with a primary focus on transportation projects. Our Indianapolis Office is the headquarters for VS Engineering and boasts our largest Transportation, Water Resources, and Structural teams. Our local staff includes a wide variety of experience levels with expertise in city, county, and INDOT work projects for local cities, counties, and the State.

A Typical Day May Include

  • Perform daily inspection and observation of construction projects
  • Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner
  • Provide thorough and accurate documentation of daily inspection activities, including field verification measurements and calculations of work performed by contractors
  • Conduct all materials field sampling and testing required by project, including asphalt sampling, concrete sampling and testing, soil sampling and testing, and aggregate sampling and testing
  • Communicate with construction contractors and client/owner representatives
  • Apply supervisory instruction to work tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in inspecting DOT transportation construction projects
  • Familiarity and basic understanding of Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Standard Specifications, Standard Drawings, General Instruction to Field Employees, and general construction contract oversight procedures
  • Successfully completed INDOT's Certified Technician Program for construction field personnel familiarity and understanding of quality transportation construction practices in embankment construction, drainage structure installation, subgrade construction, asphalt and concrete pavement construction, BMPs for stormwater management and environmental compliance, bridge foundation construction, bridge construction, and maintenance of traffic installations
  • Proficient in use of SiteManager in daily work record and material entry
  • Proficient in field measurement and quantitative verification of construction contractor's work qualified proficient in INDOT material field sampling and testing procedures for asphalt, concrete, soils, and aggregates
  • Ability and willingness to apply supervisory instruction in field inspection tasks
  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, nightshift, and varying work schedules
