Job description

As a Conservatory Library Stacks Assistant, you ensure that the Conservatory Library remains accessible and organized. With a keen and unerring eye for detail, you will reshelve returned materials, find and report on inaccuracies in the Conservatory Library collection, and engage in long-term projects that enhance the beauty and functionality of the Library’s holdings. You may also be tasked with pulling and processing materials to be lent to our institutional partners across the globe.
Over the course of training with library staff, you will become fluent in using both Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems, and learn the fine points of physically navigating the collection. You will use this knowledge to return, reshelve, locate, re-order, search for, and retrieve materials as needed.
This position requires a minimum commitment of 4 hours per week, and will begin in the Fall 2024 semester, with training taking place both remotely and onsite. Training may be available upon hiring during the Spring 2024 semester. This position offers fantastic scheduling flexibility.
No prior work experience required. Students with work study awards, and first-year students, from both the College and the Conservatory, are encouraged to apply!
Do you have further questions about this position? Feel free to reach out to the Collection Manager, Natalie Gutierrez-Negron (ngutierr@oberlin.edu). We’d be happy to answer them.
Interviews will be conducted remotely or onsite as available and convenient.
NOTE: Stacks work is physical work.
Please read the Qualifications information in its entirety for more information.
