Salary: $95000 - $105000 DOE
ideal range 95k - $105k base - max
wants someone low and high end. will see someone outside in the 110 - 120k range if needed
  • Bonus percentage - undefined right now they are working on defining - 10% of base salary at this point - could potentially go up, it is being worked out with the acquisition - 15% at the absolute most if it did go up .

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm or 8am - 5pm

Day to day duties:
The model is and to note - establishing a business partner model, single point of contact for the division
  • Right hand individual to partner with the GM.
  • Employee performance
  • Succession planning, merit increases/planning .
  • Employee relations for SD and LA divisions - 340 employees they always keep less than 400. Majority is field based technicians.
  • Majority are construction workers. Project Managers, Estimators, Sales, CAD Designers and Engineers, Administrative

  • Workers Comp - the safety team handles majority of the WC process. The HR team simply supports the back end. Estimated between the two divisions, average about 10 per year.
  • NO Payroll - function of finance - WILL NOT be responsible for processing! or doing any Payroll
  • Benefits - good working and understanding of it. There wont be any negotiating contracts. They are more of the backend support - if employees have questions
  • Recruiting - managing 20 recs or less. not a whole lot of volume. manageable at this point in time. all growth and not backfill. of the 20 recs, but could be the same position with multiple openings. as they continue to grow, they would pull it to another hire, but the work load is manageable for now.
  • Cultural change - helping identify and establish the team culture more since 2 companies merging

Must Haves:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • 5+ years from large company, can be somewhat flexible on less (large company = 250+ employees, Ideally that would be a single site location for a regional or national company.)
  • 1A Construction OR 1B Manufacturing - either/or MUST
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong business acumen - need business oriented HR

Culture:
2 companies just merging together. Rapid growth mode as of recently - Sept of last year- now part of a private equity firm. High MNA mode. Closing 2 deals a month which is substantial.
There are 1500 employees, 350 revenue. They will be doubling in the few years, 700 million. In a culture of change. The role can grow very quickly.
  • Wants this person to be communicative and a lot of autonomy to report to Philip and ask what is needed.
  • Ideal candidate: to have worked for a large organization for 5 years.
  • EXAMPLE: if someone was a HR Generalist at Tesla they need a large scale to help scale it down.
  • Needs someone very senior in their career. need things all California law.
  • ideally 10+ years. seasoned professional, little to no supervision
  • Someone 20 years experience at a mom and pop shop, not a fit
  • Construction - huge win and huge plus as they have nuances of apprentices

Systems Used: Paycom - HR system, Microsoft Office Suite
Benefits:
  • 2 legal entities, one is on a different plan and would transition over. Health Benefits - eligible day 1 to receive
  • different tiers for individual and family (they will be flexible here. the benefits are currently being transitioned over as they are in between 2 companies right now)
  • Dental / Vision - same as above
  • 401k match 50% up to 8% - eligible after 30 days of hire - automatics enrollment at 3%
  • PTO - 3 weeks can be negotiable. He is not that strict if needed more (sick days fall into it as well)

Holding onto the person in the seat until they find someone.
the individual they moved into the role did not have a HR background but fell into it. It was an experiment and not working out well. They are trying to elevate the skills and needing someone that knows HR more. The person is fine just lack of experience. they have been there less than 5 years on HR and with company a total of 8-10 years. They plan on moving her into a different role and not letting her go from the company entirely.
Another reason why they don't think the current person is the right fit and why they are looking is because she is a junior and learning as she goes. She never did HR before. They need proven experience. They need an individual who can advise leadership and support the GMs on all change and growth initiatives

Contact Met with: Philp Messenger - HR Director - 11 months in. Got brought it to stand up the whole team as they had nothing. His one year is in Sept. He came from a vary large company. fortune 500 companies. Hiller is a lot smaller with no structure and he is building the structure. Super sweet and nice! Very talkative. Probably the most flexible person I have ever spoken to. Philip is in Mobile, AL Philip has a team of 7 spread out between coast to coast each have a dedicated HR partner. LA and SD is a larger market.
