ABOUT THIS POSITION


Approximately 48 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2023, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact of $38 billion annually.

The Aviation Department has a vacancy for a Concrete Trades Helper U2 position. The Concrete Trades Helper assists the cement finishers with construction tasks at Sky Harbor International Airport, Deer Valley Airport, and Goodyear Airport. The Trades Helper is responsible for tasks such as breaking and mixing concrete materials and setting forms in the Airfield and Streets areas. This job requires a strong work ethic and attention to detail as the helper works alongside experienced professionals to ensure the construction projects are completed efficiently and safely.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to properly set traffic control devices.
  • Ability to learn the trade of concrete and capable to work out of class in the cement finisher position upon the cement finishers absence.
  • Familiar with Federal Aviation Administration rules, regulations, and guidelines is preferred.
  • Knowledge of characteristics and uses of concrete and various cement mixtures.
  • Knowledge of setting wood and metal forms for sidewalks, curbs, gutter, and any other concrete structure.
  • Knowledge of different hand tools to finish cement surfaces (e.g., towels, floats, straight edges, jointers, fresnos).

SALARY


Pay Range: $18.60 to $30.31 per hour.

Hiring Range: $18.60 to $22.54 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience assisting a skilled trades person or performing manual work which involved the use of an acquired skill.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • Working irregular hours, second or third shift, weekends, holidays and evenings may be required.
  • Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds will be required.

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience with layouts and setting forms for pouring concrete, mixing concrete, and assisting in finishing concrete.
