Summary:
The Concrete Finisher position is responsible for perform a variety of tasks including forming, placing, finishing, protecting and repairing all concrete surfaces, in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards using a variety of hand and power tools. The position may clean and prepare sites, and remove waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers.
Essential Functions:
- Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in mining/heavy construction projects.
- Set forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth in accordance with project specifications
- Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed.
- Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process.
- Direct the casting of the concrete and supervise laborers who use shovels or special tools to spread it.
- Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms.
- Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
- Clean chipped area, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven.
- Produce rough concrete surface, using broom.
- Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface.
- Dispose of garbage according to set policies and procedures
- Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
- Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
- Help identify hazardous conditions on the job site.
- Report any damage immediately to supervisor
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably able to perform other tasks satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum:
- Minimum 2 years experience as a Concrete Finisher/Cement Finisher
- Basic math skills to accurately calculate dimensions of forms and molds
- High School Diploma or GED.
- MSHA certification
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
- Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Ability to read, understand and implement project plans and documents
- Ability to communicate information in writing so others will understand.
- Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently or as a team member successfully
- Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Ability to meet project schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Ability to wear protective clothing
