SUMMARY
The Security Officer ensures the safety and security of the building on a 24-hours a day, seven days a week basis; maintains and ensures compliance with the property’s security and emergency plans. The purpose of this job is to protect life and property of the client, visitors and employees by performing security duties and functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Special duties will be assigned on a per post basis and may be updated at any time as the situation and client dictate. Security Officers primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Know the tenants of the building and be willing and prepared to assist them in any way possible within client and company policies.
- Make and process badge requests (Visitor and Forgotten) for all employees and contractors.
- Enforces client rules and regulations applicable to the security function for the building
- Actions include responding to emergency calls, calls for security services, and calls for assistance. Assists and/or backs fellow officers as requested or necessary on all types of calls or incidents and participates in emergency situations as directed by supervisors.
- Responds to calls for service; to gather information at the incident scene; investigate injury or accidents; to interview victims and witnesses; to write appropriate reports; and to notify and cooperate with local law enforcement as necessary.
- Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters to include directing traffic (on private property and with proper training), administering emergency medical aid, and managing dangerous situations; interacts with EMT teams, fire personnel, and law enforcement.
- Investigates reported crimes by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and concerned parties; and assist law enforcement in identifying suspects and providing information to assist them detention and apprehension.
- Enters/retrieves data to and from the security computer system.
- Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information by telephone, e-mail or in person from facility management, visitors to the property, the general public, employees, superiors, etc. in a timely manner. A 100% response rate for e-mails is expected.
- Complies with United Protective Services philosophy and site-specific directives, orders, assignments, activities, site emergency plans and security plans.
- Monitors security radio channels and communicates effectively and coherently over the two-way radio.
- Attends shift meetings and training sessions as required to remain knowledgeable of security operations and duties.
- Maintains high visibility by patrolling assigned area to ensure security; makes observations for prowlers, would-be thieves and suspicious persons.
- Identifies problem locations at the property including safety concerns and reports to supervisors.
- Operates a security cart (Rovers), during day and/or night hours; inspects for proper maintenance of vehicle prior to using, notifies supervisor of service and/or repairs needed.
- Prepares Post Activity Reports, vehicle maintenance requests, incident reports, work orders and various other written documents.
- Uses a computer and/or cell phone to prepare reports and document incidents/shift activity via Silvertrac.
- Cooperates with law enforcement agencies and its officers or representatives when their activities or investigations are related to on-going investigations being conducted. Works to achieve the highest level of cooperation and efficiency possible.
- Is knowledgeable about and obeys the structure, purpose, and operation of the chain-of-command.
- Provides timely notification of serious events and incidents to the SOC.
- Comply with site uniform dress code rules and regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required. Must have six months to one year of customer service experience. Security officer experience required. Fire Warden Training required within 30 days of employment. Must maintain CPR/AED Certification.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- General computer skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to operate general office equipment/computers/cell phones and hand-held radios.
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
- Superior communication skills both verbal and written including grammar, speed and attention to detail.
