Performs difficult skilled technical work configuring, installing, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining the systems hardware and software and related infrastructure, providing support and management of the datacenter, physical and virtual servers, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, backup and enterprise disk storage systems and hardware; does related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Infrastructure Manager.
- Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with industry standards and project/operational requirements.(20%)
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs.(20%)
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media; recovery tapes or disks are created, media is recycled, stored off site as necessary, and is recoverable. (5%)
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.(5%)
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary.(5%)
- Conduct virtual infrastructure capacity assessments, forecasting, and health appraisals. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies develop, maintain, and test DR plans to ensure compliance with the Departments DR plan.(5%)
- Supports and maintains the email server, database and configuration. Provides E-Discovery data when requested. (10%)
- Recommends and assists in determining the priority and scope of projects based on the value, need, funding, and objectives of the City.(5%)
- Mentors and develops assigned staff to enhance performance, knowledge, and responsibility.(5%)
- Assists in the preparation of Division Budget.(5%)
- Research and recommend, innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.(5%)
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.(5%)
- Contribute to and maintain system standards.(5%)
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in information technology, or related field and considerable experience working with Windows Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid North Carolina driver's license.
Emergency Management Institute - National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700, IS-100, IS-200, and IS-300 courses within twelve months of hire.
