Computer Support Technician
Arkansas State University-Newport

The Computer Support Technician will be responsible for assisting in the support of academic and/or administrative computer services. This position is governed by operating standards, procedures, and institution policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Evaluate, diagnose and correct software/hardware problems.
• Analyze specifications and recommend equipment / services to fulfill specifications.
• Respond to and assist users with questions and concerns relating to hardware, software, and computer stations.
• Deploy and maintain a variety of application software packages.
• Install, configure, and maintain networks, hardware, and software.
• Troubleshoot problems with IT equipment and systems as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate must have an associate of arts with a major in computer applications, computer science, or related field. Relevant past experience can be substituted for formal education. Candidate must have one year of prior experience in computer applications or related area.
KNOWLEDGE
For this job, candidate must have knowledge of computer applications, programming, structured programming methods, concepts and standards. Candidate must have the ability to communicate information of a specialized nature.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos; ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to plan and perform work considering new or constantly changing problems, work from broad instruction, and deal with complex factors not easily evaluated. Decisions require considerable judgement, initiative, and ingenuity in areas where there is little precedent.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS
Regular contact with other College employees at all levels within the organization. Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as with a team structure. Involves both furnishing and obtaining information from external contacts as well.

• While performing the functions of this job, the employee is continuously required to talk and hear; regularly required to stand, and walk long distances; frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, bend, and drive.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and lift up to 3 ½ feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
• Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, touchscreen devices and similar machines.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
There are no harmful environmental conditions that are present for this position.
Salary & Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $35,000.
