Print DELANO JOINT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT COMPUTER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN Job Summary The Computer Support Technician will, under the supervision of the Data Processing Coordinator, analyze and diagnose malfunctions and technical problems for computerized operations within the District. This job classification requires specialized technical knowledge in the areas of microcomputer technology and software systems as well as the ability to maintain effective and professional relationships with managers, staff, and vendors. Required Qualifications Education/Experience: Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and two years of college or equivalent work experience in a computer related field desirable; additional courses in information systems or computer science desirable. Experience in installing and troubleshooting microcomputer hardware, software, and related peripheral equipment; experience in maintaining an network with a Network Operation System such as Novell Netware or Windows NT. Personal Qualities: Excellent interpersonal, conceptual, communication and organizational skills. Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of current principles and procedures, practices and terminology of computer operations functions and processes; capabilities and limitations of designated hardware, software and telecommunications systems; district policies and administrative directives; ability to interpret and successfully apply a variety of sources; ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in both oral and written forms; ability to plan, manage and prioritize a wide variety of functions within given time frames and resources. Essential Functions of This Position 1. Microcomputer trouble-shooting and installation of new or replacement systems, including installation of hardware and peripheral components, such as monitors, CD-ROMs, modems, keyboards, printers, disk drives, and network interface cards; 2. Installs, modifies, and makes minor repairs to microcomputer hardware and software systems, and refers major hardware problems to outside vendors for correction. 3. Performs routine periodic maintenance service on microcomputer hardware equipment; 4. Uses basic diagnostic maintenance and repair tools and software diagnostic instruments; 5. Analyze and diagnose malfunctions and technical problems; 6. Identify, isolate, and resolve technical network problems; 7. Provide recommendations regarding the purchase and enhancement of network equipment; 8. Install, test and replace network links and equipment; 9. Learn the characteristics of new types and models of microcomputers and peripheral equipment; 10. Maintains records and documents; 11. Work effectively without immediate supervision. 12. Ability to carry 50 lbs. Other Related Functions of this Position: 1. Provides technical assistance and training to users. 2. Provides technical assistance through computer training center. 3. Provides trouble-shooting diagnostics with district, and answers questions in person or via telephone and electronic messaging 4. Provides technical support to local-area network operations, including installation of station cabling, punch down and cross-connects from district hub/concentrators. 5. Provides review and consultation on software to determine the advisability and functionality of its use by internal departments and client districts. 6. Maintain inventory and stock level of extra parts used in repair activities and operations. 7. Prepare a variety of cost estimates and equipment specifications. 8. Knowledge of current principles and procedures, practices and terminology of data processing operations. 9. Knowledge of principles, methods and terminology of computer operations functions and processes. 10. Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of designated hardware, software and telecommunication systems. 11. Knowledge of district policies and administrative directives. 12. Communicates effectively and tactfully in both oral and written forms. 13. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
