Position Summary:

Pathway Partners LLC is seeking a Threat Management Specialist to support a potential local government customer, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The Threat Management Specialist function is essential to the DEP’s ability to defend DEP systems from cyber threats, including direct support of life safety, revenue-generating, and operations.

The Threat Management Specialist will contribute to DEP’s ability to respond to vulnerability notifications and prioritized system patching info.

Without timely vulnerability notification, DEP cannot effectively adjust its defensive controls, resulting in an increased likelihood of cyber events that may require costly remediation efforts.

The Threat Management Specialist will augment staff in the DEP cyber security team and may include nights, weekends, and holidays to monitor the health of DEP’s networks.

Position Description:

The Threat Management Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Perform many critical functions within the DEP cyber security discipline, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Interface with NYC Cyber Command teams, vendors, and information-sharing partners.
• Monitor DEP’s networks and security alerts for intrusion, attempted compromise, and anomalous behavior, apply mitigation techniques or escalation factors, and correlate threat intelligence across various logs collected by established security controls.

Minimum Experience Level:

• Minimum five (5) years of experience in Threat Management/SOC/Incident Response environment.

Threat Management Specialist Requirements

• Knowledge of information security principles, practices, and procedures;
• Strong understanding of network and host technologies;
• Experience applying techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusion using IDS methods and technologies;
• Experience with SIEM technologies, malware analysis and mitigation techniques;
• Apply cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements (confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation);
• Interpret information collected by diagnostic network tools (nslookup, Ping, and Traceroute);
• Ability to investigate and solve complex problems.

• $80-$95/hour

Hours

• 35 hours/week
• Occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays
