The practice of Computed Tomography is performed by health care professionals responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. A Computed Tomography Technologist performs Computed Tomography procedures and acquires and analyzes data needed for diagnosis, interpretation and the performance of interventional and therapeutic procedures at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.
Computed Tomography Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner or radiologist assistant in the completion of Computed Tomography procedures. Computed Tomography Technologists prepare, administer and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations or lawful institutional policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inputs patient information
- Adjust and maintain imaging equipment
- Precisely follow orders from physicians on what areas of the body to image
- Prepare patients for procedures, including taking a medical history and answering questions about the procedure
- Protect the patient by shielding exposed areas that do not need to be imaged
- Position the patient and the equipment to obtain the correct image
- Operate the computerized equipment to take the images
- Work with physicians to evaluate the images and to determine whether additional images need to be taken
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the facility
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of ARRT Accredited Program (Associate in Science)
- Florida License (CRT)
- Current ARRT Certification
- Minimum one year of experience
- Current American Heart Association Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
